Little is known about painters of the Central African Republic outside the country and even inside, the artists struggle for visibility. This book seeks to give some publicity to those painters, who for the most part are self-taught and who paint figurative and realistic work. In a round table discussion with eight of the artists, they set forth what influences and inspires them, what themes and materials they use, and what market and appreciation for their work exists. There are brief profiles of seventeen artists. Few black-and-white illustrations.
